Arrest and praise of Ahmed Mohamed over mistaken bomb

14 year old Ahmed  Mohamed made a clock at home and brought it into MacArthur High School in Irving to show his engineering teacher. He didn’t know what trouble he is falling into.

After watching the clock, his Engineering teacher admired and asked him not to shoe this clock to other teachers.

Later in another class, clock beeped and the teacher became aware and was concerned that it looked like a bomb.

“She was like – it looks like a bomb,”

he said.

The concerned teacher then alerted school authorities who called the police resulting in arrest of the 14-year old. Later, the boy was pulled out of class, interviewed by the head teachers and four police officers and put into juvenile detention.

Irving Police Department chief Larry Boyd said the boy had been arrested for a suspected “hoax bomb”, but officers determined there was no threat and released him.

Mr Boyd said “We have always had an outstanding relationship with the Muslim community, Incidents like this present challenges. We want to learn how we can move forward and turn this into a positive.”

After all these incident the school issued a statement that  “always ask our students and staff to immediately report if they observe any suspicious items”.

Ahmed’s father Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, who is originally from Sudan, said his son had been mistreated because of his name “and because of 11 September”. Alia Salem of the Council on American-Islamic Relations agreed: “This wouldn’t even be a question if his name wasn’t Ahmed Mohamed. He is an excited kid who is very bright and wants to share it with his teachers.”

Twitter and other social media reacted heavily with  Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg even asked the kid to visit facebook! markzuck President Obama twitted :

The homemade clock was made of a circuit board, wires and a digital display but was enough to hang the humanity on the cliffs.
